520 |a Ngati Porou account of the famous demi-god, Ruatepupuke, who is credited with introducing carving to humanity in the process of rescuing his son from Tangaroa. 2. This story is about a father who, despite the protests of his children, decides to clear manuka and harakeke to build a fence to stop his sheep from straying. In the making of the fence, the father slips down a bank and is rescued by his children using a rope made from harakeke and tied to the manuka. Needless to say he concedes to his children's wishes to keep the manuka and harakeke. Suggested audience: intermediate, junior secondary.
