Summary:This report has been divided into four broad sections. Section One details the spiritual values of the Maori in relation to the environment and water. Section Two documents the historical evidence of Maori occupation and long-standing use of the Waiau River and catchment. Section Three identifies the cultural values related to mahinga kai, and other resources in the region. The final section provides a concluding summary and a list of concerns and recommendations for the future discussion and management of the Waiau River.
