Detail
Summary:A retelling of the traditional story of Uenuku and Hinepūkohurangi. Uenuku falls in love with Hine-pūkohu-rangi, a beautiful mist maiden from the supernatural realm. He tries to contain her in the darkness of his house sealed with mud, but she escapes, and dissolves in the heat of the sun, to live in the sky forever. Uenuku ages and pines without her, until the gods take pity on him, and raise him to the sky, where he is reunited with his beloved. He cries with joy, and a rainbow appears from his tears.
