| Summary: | This volume contains the elegiac study of a specific topic, the link between Love and Death, is dealt with in its most immediate recurrence at the level of the surface structure of the poetry of Propertius, but also in its interrelations with the deep structure of the text, that is, with the ideology of the author, which is expressed predominantly in the elegiac reflection on the conditions of existence. Thus there is a tension that runs through the entire work of the Umbrian poet, towards the construction of a system of ethics, a moral world elegiac, which uses Love and Death as images able to support this process in the most authentic, on the floor on the side of the attitudes and more specifically literary. The reformulation of the relationship between love and death becomes a tool for defining the role of the existential poet-lover and delivery to the literary tradition, a legacy of images and poetic situations among the most vital and significant. |
